About this website
This website is published by Encompass Marine Surveying, LLC. The information on it describes our services
in general terms. It is not a survey, an appraisal, or professional advice about any particular vessel, and
nothing on this site should be relied on in place of an actual inspection.
Booking a survey
A survey is arranged through our booking form. The terms you agree to when you submit that form govern the
work, and they are set out in full on the form itself. The key points are summarised here for convenience:
- Holding the date. The survey date is held once your completed booking form is returned.
- Price. You are billed the price quoted on your booking form. If a lower price has been
agreed, that agreed price is what you pay. You will never be billed more than the amount shown on the form.
- Cancellation. A cancellation with less than 24 hours' notice carries a fee of 50% of the
quoted survey price. Flight costs and other pre-incurred expenses are non-refundable.
- Survey terminated early. A survey may be stopped once underway if the vessel's condition,
safety or accessibility makes continuing unproductive or unsafe, or if the vessel is not made available as
arranged. In that event a fee of 50% of the quoted survey price applies, plus travel and any pre-incurred
expenses. This may be reduced or waived at the surveyor's discretion.
- Payment. Payment is due before the survey report is released. Cash or check on the day of
the survey carries no processing fee; credit-card payments add a 4% administrative fee.
- Disputes. Disputes are resolved by arbitration before a single arbitrator in
Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The survey report
A survey report records the surveyor's professional opinion of the vessel's condition on the date of
inspection, based on what could reasonably be observed and tested at that time. It is not a warranty or
guarantee of the vessel, and it does not cover concealed conditions or anything that could not be accessed
without disassembly or damage. The report is prepared for the named client and is not transferable to another
party without our written consent.
Credentials
Hunter Wray is a Certified Marine Surveyor (CMS) with the Association of Certified Marine Surveyors,

ABYC and NFPA.
Please note: this page is a plain-language summary for website visitors. Where anything here
differs from the booking agreement you signed, the booking agreement governs. This page is
